TOTAL DEFENCE: Keeping Singapore strong on all fronts

Total Defence is divided into five aspects: Military Defence, Civil Defence, Economic Defence, Social Defence and Psychological Defence.

Total Defence Day marked by launch of "Home" music video and nationwide siren

"Home - Keeping It Together" - that's the theme of this year's Total Defence campaign.

Along with it, the organisers have launched the "Home" music video.

15 Feb is Total Defence Day and a Public Warning System siren was also sounded at noon to mark the occasion.

Feb 15 1942 was the day Singapore fell to the Japanese during World War II, and Total Defence Day is a reminder to Singaporeans that everyone has a part to play in defending the country.

The video is a remake of a Singapore classic "Home" which was written by local composer Dick Lee and made popular by singer Kit Chan in the 1998 National Day Parade.

Featuring 39 artistes, the video is now the face of this year's Total Defence campaign.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said Total Defence had enabled government agencies, private sector organisations and individual Singaporeans to come together to effectively deal with various national crises such as the fallout from the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the Sars outbreak in 2003, and the recent global recession,

This year, over 2,000 students from about 604 teams also took part in the N.E.mation contest and expressed their feelings about home.

Members of the public who want to do your part and go to http://www.thisishome.sg and download the "Home" video. Four organisations have pledged a dollar to the Community Chest for every download of the "Home" video.
